A Macanudo with lots of gusto? The popular brand is known for its mild temperment. With the 1968, though, they have entered the world of gutsy tasting sticks. The blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler features tobacco grown on the Nicaraguan volcanic island of Ometepe that rises out of Lake Nicaragua. The island’s soil produces tobacco leaves treasured by blenders and smokers alike. The filler leaves are aged in charcoaled barrels to intensify the flavors. The binder is Connecticut Habano, all wrapped together in an oily Honduran San Agustin leaf. The taste is rich with accents of anise and espresso behind a peppery overtone. This is a unique and interesting smoke from an unexpected, and welcome, source.
